Looking for some eco money saving tips? Or information on the latest ways to lead a greener life? Helen K Thomas checks out the latest edition of the Green Living Guide…
To the web-generation, the idea of reading a magazine might seem quite antiquated, but if you’re interested in the environment and green living, then the Green Living Guide is just for you. In fact, even if you’re not remotely interested in the environment and green living, you’d be a fool to miss out on the mammoth amount of knowledge you could gain - and the amount of money you could save too!
When I first looked at the magazine, I’ll be honest, I thought £7.99 for 194 pages of eco tips was perhaps a bit much – and I’m already a converted eco-warrior! But the way that the guide preaches green is refreshingly different. With tips, facts and a section prescribed for nearly every part of our daily lives, there's something to interest everyone.
“A 2007 study of employees’ habits found that most people left good practise at home, lacking the incentive or encouragement from bosses to carry on at work.”
I didn’t expect one green magazine to cover everything from transport (the new Toyota Prius), to food and drink (organic wines), fashion and beauty (what’s in your make-up?) to choosing the best nappy for your baby. This magazine really does demand the attention of all - and in fact, deserves it.
What strikes me is how it impresses on the reader just how much the environment not only affects everyone but is for everyone, be they exploited farmers in third-world countries or children in rural England, working to make their school a sustainable one.
“It is easy to blame the Western world for the state we are in because, by and large, we are the culprits’.
It helps consumers make informed choices by educating; includes the topics you would expect (recycling, energy efficiency, green transportation methods) and offers helpful solutions and practical guidance for home, office, travel and the outdoors.
“Buying recycled sends a strong message to manufacturers and retailers and affects sustainability policies and practise”.
Each section has a dedicated colour for easy-flicking and after a ten minute read, your mind will be crammed full of eco-wisdom - and you won’t have even noticed it! It doesn't stop there though - there's enough food for thought to keep the reader occupied for hours. It’s intelligent and informative in a friendly and comprehensive manner and, in my opinion, well worth the money. It doesn’t matter what level of ‘green’ you are at, The Green Living Guide is worth a look!
£7.99 from: Tesco and WH Smith, and online at amazon.co.uk and magbooks.com.
